Uneasy Riders

Here are the girls of my week. First my youngest mermaid did her glaze voyage in a gas kiln. Here is a picture of her and her shelf mate. From the kiln she got a ride in the car and no box for her. She rides up front in the passenger seat, just as her sister "House of Defense" did the next day after she came came from the smaller kiln. That one was tall enough I thought I'd better strap her in.

Studio In Photo Mode

Today is my day to teach at Rosewood, city of Kettering, art center. My studio is quiet and clean by my standards. As I have several new pots it is in the photo mode. Dragonfly bowls wait to for their portraits to be taken and what looks like a casserole hangs about. I had intended for it to become an urn but its talking to me. It tells me it thinks it is a casserole. Casserole? Blah! It is not even a good casserole.

The First Mermaids

The first two of my five mermaids have made it through the glaze process. One mermaid, my largest, blew off a breast during her biscuit firing which led to much mirth in our studio. . .with Jean Ann's "mermaid mastectomy". More on her later. Meanwhile I have a couple pictures of the girls who made it through. The smallest mermaid--Kelpie was my first. She is almost too stern but I love the little fin that is part of her spine.

My second mermaid was made to sit on the side of a shelf. Her name is Perch and she is to go to Don and Debbie Rumford of Rumford Productions.

The Snakes

This morning was portrait morning for my "snakes" which I do have on slides but now they need to become digital. Part of these preparations are a proposal for solo exhibit at Rosewood Gallery Kettering Ohio. Stay tuned for results.
Meanwhile here are a couple of my snakes. They are the preamble to the gorgons that I have been groping for in the past couple years.

Gas Kiln Opening 2-29-09

Last Thursday reduction firing went off last Thursday just fine thank you. It began at 930 am and went until 6:30 pm. The cone 10 was tip touching top and bottom shelf. You just don't get much better than that. Saturday noon was our date to open. It's just like Christmas.

I was excited as this kiln load was mainly full of my pots. I was particularly interested in Three urns I had worked on. One which is slated for Matt Kennedy's site http://tootallspottery.com/index.html

When I arrived the others--Phoebe, Rebbecca, Norm, and Sarah were waiting. They were more than ready. The kiln was open and inside the pots and furniture were cool enough to handle. First I took pictures of the inside where I could see my three urns. They had fired off beautifully. We got a few snap shots first then "the unloading had begun"
